News & Info:

2/5 - It’s finally “Sun” day! After many months of those pesky “finishing touches,” our new CD, Throwing Rocks At The Sun, is ready for your enjoyment. We think it sounds (and looks) great. But you be the judge…

Help us celebrate (and get the new disc) at our official NYC record release party! It’s a Monday and it’s early –see you there!
Monday February 5th, Crash Mansion (199 Bowery @ Spring St, NYC) 8:30PM

12/11 - Not to be outdone, the band took over the airwaves on 104.7 “The Wolf,” the official radio station of Mohegan Sun, during the Mike English afternoon show. We played some tunes, did a little schmoozing as we promoted our evening Wolf Den show and the food drive. Thanks all those who called in!

12/10 - This morning, Volker appeared (via phone) on the Chaz and AJ show on New Haven’s WPLR (99.1). In a quick-but-fun phone interview (or “phoner” as insiders call ‘em), Volker talked about the band’s music, our upcoming show at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den and our efforts to raise money for the The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. It may be urban myth, but word on the street is ratings skyrocketed roof during his segment.

11/17 - Up-and-coming rock band The Mercury Seed is teaming up with the Gemma E. Moran United Way / Labor Food Center for the charity event, “Seed The Hungry” on December 11, 2006 at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. The band decided to join forces with the non-profit organization to help alleviate the ever-present hunger problem in the local area, particularly around the holiday season.

You can help.... Contact: Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, P.O. Box 429, 374 Broad Street, New London, CT 06320 (860-444-8050)

10/20 - Thank you NYC for a great night at the Lion's Den. The band was in fine form, rocking a tight set featuring material from the forthcoming disc to a packed house. Look for a return visit to The Lions Den in early '07.

9/25 -
The band is confirmed to head into Brooklyn’s Headgear studio in October to put the finishing touches on their long delayed New CD. Headgear has been making some great albums for local and national bands. Thanks again to everyone for all their patience. It's coming!

8/29 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
ROCK MONDAYS AT THE WOLF DEN

Indie rock group The Mercury Seed moves into the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun starting October 9th, and plays the second Monday on the month on November 13th and December 11th. The Mercury Seed recently had the distinction of opening for Bon Jovi at Mohegan Sun Arena, and the quintet from the outskirts of New York City is finishing up a new CD to follow up their critically acclaimed album DUST. Inspired by the classic templates of The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, as well as the more contemporary sounds of Wilco and Radiohead, the band has gained justified notoriety.

7/17 - Much thanks go out to our friends at Black Potatoe Entertainment.  The Seed lit up the crowd at the 10th Annual Black Potatoe Music Festival during a sunset show on Friday. Other highlights from the night included an acoustic set by Jeffrey Gaines and a fantastic showing by Kathy Phillips.

In other news: The Seed has been back in the studio finishing mixing on their eagerly anticipated new CD.

6/16 - The Seed returns from a triumphant stint in Canada, having thoroughly rocked the North by North East Festival. The crowd at the infamous Black Bull Tavern in Toronto was treated to tunes from the band’s long-awaited new disc. The city was buzzing with musicians looking to get their music out and network with other bands. Since the weather was so nice, The Seed decided to network with some ice cold Carlsberg's. Upon returning to the States, The Seed played a special show with our friend and engineer Scott White at Alchemy Nightclub in New Haven, CT. Several other original acts from the TriState area rounded out the evening. It was truly a great night of Rock and Roll.

5/5 - Dust off that passport and pack an extra pair of underwear, because the Seed is spreading north to the land of the toothless puck-slappers for the three day North by Northeast Music Festival in Toronto. They will be throwing down on opening night, Thursday, June 8th, for a midnight set at the former biker haunt-turned-tourist spot, The Black Bull Tavern. During the past decade, the festival has developed a worldwide reputation for discovering and exposing emerging talent to music fans and industry professionals. Past performers included SUM 41, Billy Talent, Sufjan Stevens and a number of other stars. So don’t be hoser, eh, and make your way north to support the lads.

4/10 -
...And you lose some. You may have seen news reports about the recent Stamford warehouse fire. Unfortunately, the building that went up in flames also housed our rehearsal space stuffed with much of our gear. (Okay, get it over with, make your Sam “Ash” jokes here). We’re battling landlords and insurance companies to cover our losses, but if anyone’s selling a PA system or guitar amps, drop us an e-mail. The shows must go on...

3/30 -  Mercury rising. Hey, we won…again! Facing off against 8 bands at The Bitter End (in NYC), The Mercury Seed took the 2nd round of the Emergenza Festival. Soon, look for us at the Knitting Factory(!) in the 3rd round. We’ll have details soon. Thanks to everyone who came to the show (including our new BFF, Gavin DeGraw), and double-thanks for the serious “show of hands.”

2/22 - After a fast ’n’ furious set on Saturday night that featured “Liferaft” and “Under The Radar” off the forthcoming CD, the band hit the bar for some PBR’s. Shortly afterward, we were informed we had come in first place, winning the evening’s competition at Arlene’s Grocery. So, a special thank you to our friends... A nod to the judges.... And a little something extra to our bartenders. This advances the band to the next round of the Emergenza competition to be held March 29th at The Bitter End. We hope you can join us again.

2/17 - We’re in the final four!  Thanks to an outpouring of support from our friends everywhere, The Seed is among four acts that remain in the running to open Bon Jovi’s Summer ’06 show at Giants Stadium. Word is, we’ll find out if we got the gig any day now. Stay tuned and cross your fingers!

The Seed was selected to compete in the Emergenza Live Festival, a Competition for up-and-coming bands Saturday February 18 at Arlene’s Grocery (95 Stanton Street, NYC). We’re on at 11 (sharp) for a set as important as it will be quick. The night’s winner is decided by crowd volume, so we hope you can come scream your heads off for us. Find out more about Emergenza here

1/30 -
It's a new year, time to exercise...your right to vote for us! This week (until 2/5), you can vote online to help decide whether The Mercury Seed will be in the Final Four to open for Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium this summer!!!!   It's fast and painless. Swear. Vote here. Thanks a ton for supporting the band.

12/19 - Hey, we're in The Times! Um, no, not THAT one. But we must thank Rachel Kaplan for her nice article about us in the Trumbull Times. She survived a trip to our rehearsal space, asked us some interesting questions, and got all her facts straight. Give that writer a raise!

Also send out a big thank you to Chad Lanzo for his revealing article on the Seed In the Norwalk Citizen. Now that’s some nice real estate!

12/12 - SoHoHo. Help us close out the year out in style at Sin-e in NYC oN Thursday December 22. FYI: Sin-e is located between Houston and Stanton and three blocks east of Avenue A. Be a Seed reader. Check out a recent feature article in the Norwich Bulletin. Special thanks to writer Amy Lawson for her insightful comments and ability to pull info out of some of our notoriously tight-lipped fellas. Couldn't have been easy.

11/28 - Yes, we loved opening for Bon Jovi at Mohegan Sun Arena. Yes, we met the band (they were VERY nice to us and even mentioned our band in one of their songs). Yes, we hopefully made many new fans of the 8,000 (or so) in attendance. Thanks for all those who made the trek to Uncasville and cross your fingers—we’re still in the running to open Bon Jovi’s show at Giants Stadium next summer! Oh yeah, Sean Spillane of the Connecticut Post wrote a cover story that appeared Monday November 28th (it even shows a photo of us with our new friends). Connecticut Post Article

11/15 - It’s official: We’re arena rockers. Mercury Seed opens for
Bon Jovi (yes, that Bon Jovi) at Mohegan Sun Arena (in Uncasville, CT) on Saturday November 26. How the...what the...? Glad you asked. We landed the gig by topping hundreds of other bands in an “Open for Bon Jovi” promotion that may lead to something bigger. If you see just one Seed show this year, see this one, too. Get your tickets now …and don’t forget extra cash for blackjack.

11/8 - It’s just the normal noises in here. Did we tell you we played three nights in Boston last weekend? We spent the weekend recording vocals and guitars for our someday-to-be-released CD at Small Church Studios. Very fun, productive and serendipitous: at a Sunday night elbow-bender we met the very talented Sarah, who provided kick-butt backing vocals the next day. Hang tight, we’re almost done.

10/19 - John and Volker were interviewed on New Jersey's Home Grown Radio to help promote the show at The Pussycat Lounge.  Many thanks to Kenny Collins for his kind words and for keeping rock alive on the 'net!

8/13 - To keep everyone in the loop: Work continues on the new Mercury Seed CD. We’re also writing new material for whatever’s next, but that’s another story. Thanks to all the folks at Black Bear Saloon. Excellent vibes on a Wednesday evening in SoNo.

7/22 - The Mercury Seed is currently featured on the second volume of the UK-based Lemonheads tribute album “
Squealing Fans In My Tune”. Check out here for details on how to order.

6/30 - Thanks to everyone that made Mercury Lounge NYC such a huge success last night! We had a great time and loved the response to some of the new material. And let’s not forget the awesome set by Lez Zeppelin. Good times! We’re back up in Boston next week to continue work on the forthcoming CD.

5/24
- The band has been asked to participate on the forthcoming Tribute to The Lemonheads CD. Last weekend was spent up at White House Studios tracking the song ‘The Great Big No’. Very special thanks to Scott White for a great “Marathon Session” and an even better mix. We would also like to thank everyone for a great gig at The Loft last week. That was our LIVE debut of ‘The Great Big No’. We’re sure it will pop up again at some future shows.

5/6 -
We’re still reeling from our show at BB King’s in NYC!  First off, we can’t believe we got to share the stage with rock legends KANSAS. The place was packed and their fans were very cool to us, giving us major applause between songs. Some fans even came seeking autographs after the show. Big thanks to Phil Ehart and to everyone at BB King’s who helped us sound and feel so great.

"Learning to Crawl' got its radio debut on 92.3fm K-Rock out of New York last night. Matt Pinfield personally selected the track off the band's new disc 'DUST' to play on his radio show THE BUZZ. For more info on Matt and THE BUZZ, visit krockradio.com/thebuzz/ Please call and request the track as often as possible. The K-Rock number is 1-888-923KROCK. Thanks for the support!
